Measurements of the eyes are taken while the patient is in the sitting position. However, the patient must be in lying position when laser treatment is delivered. Usually, the patient’s eye would rotate if he or she changes position from sitting down to lying down. If this is not considered, the laser will not be delivered accurately, resulting to poor vision despite undergoing the treatment.

With the use of Iris Registration, the scan of the iris when the patient is sitting up is compared to the position of the iris after the patient lies down. By using date from the colored part of the eye, the laser can automatically adjust so that treatment can be done precisely.
